Having been trying to deal with icom web over at shrewsbury now for the past 3-4 weeks, i have found them highly unprofessional, disorganized and rude. Down with icom web in shrewsbury !
The story goes like this. .

The server of my client was originally hosted on some outdated php4 system, using a datbase which had a password along the lines of ‘users’, ‘pass’ as the login details, and was shared with about 30 other websites. This huge security flaw was pointed out on day one, and took over 2 weeks to resolve.

The website was then moved to their php5 server, which i was told had PDO (as i had requested this).

I went ahead and developed the website on my local server. Once the website was complete and approved by the client i tried to run it from the actual live server, only to find PDO was enabled, but only for pdo_sqlite and not pdo_mysql.

I requested that the pdo_mysql drivers be installed.

In the end their server admin was unable to complete the installation due to inexperience and what should have been a 1-2 hours max, they spent 3 days on. A week later the server was still not installed with pdo_mysql so i gave them a ring.

Ian (the boss) answered in his usual moody miserable tone, only to tell me he wasn’t prepared to spend any more time on installing pdo_mysql drivers on the server. Icom web had not decided to get back to me and keep me informed about this and i had to find out myself by ringing up, and everytime Ian was rude and moody.

Overall, i found the customer service the worst from a hosting provider i have ever encountered.

The technical support and quality of the hosting setups was inadequate and obviously set up by inexperienced people trying to make a quick buck.

The hosting from icom web is also over priced.

Say no to icom web in shrewsbury, their are hundreds of other providers out there, all of whom offer php5 and pdo_mysql without even blinking an eyelid.

I would recomend the following hosts:
